Pickleball Alberta is the governing body for the sport of pickleball in the Province of Alberta.
The Alberta Pickleball Association (a.k.a. Pickleball Alberta) was formally registered in the Province of Alberta on September 21, 2010.
Founding officers are Brent Johner (president), Mary Lambert, Philip Menard, Elena Menn, Lynda Tebo.
Pickleball Alberta is formally affiliated with the Canadian Pickleball Federation.
CORE PRINCIPLES OF PICKLEBALL ALBERTA
The Alberta Pickleball Association is the governing body for the sport of pickleball in Alberta. As such, the Association works at all times to foster an atmosphere which is respectful to recreational and competitive players, volunteer and professional coaches, non-profit and for-profit facilities, public and private clubs and all existing and potential industry partners.
As the governing body for the sport of pickleball in Alberta, the Alberta Pickleball Association is committed to working within the frameworks created by national and provincial agencies such as Sport Alberta, Sport Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada.
The Alberta Pickleball Association does not and cannot make rules which restrict the use of particular brands or models of pickleball paddles that are otherwise acceptable under Section 2 of the Rules of Pickleball unless there is compelling evidence that such paddles create an unacceptable safety risk to pickleball players.
The Alberta Pickleball Association is not and cannot be affiliated with any club, program, facility, national organization or international body that restricts the use of particular brands or models of pickleball paddles that are otherwise acceptable under Section 2 of the Rules of Pickleball unless there is compelling evidence that such paddles create an unacceptable safety risk for pickleball players.
MEMBERSHIP
The Alberta Pickleball Association is open to Albertans over the age of 18 who indicate on our membership application that they accept our core principles (above). Each applicant is carefully scrutinized in this regard. Applicants who do not accept our core principles are not recommended for membership. Applicants who are recommended for membership are approved by majority vote at our quarterly board meetings.
Pickleball Alberta will begin accepting membership applications in September 2011.
